Season 1, Episode 2 – Stephen Yoch

In episode two we talk with Stephen Yoch, author of the novel Becoming George Washington. Yoch, a lawyer by day, discusses the value of research while noting the importance of precision in his writing so that readers know what’s real and what’s not real. He also talks about the long but rewarding process of bringing history to life stating, “adding human detail to history, I think, is the great quest of historical fiction.”

About the Author

Stephen E. Yoch is a Twin Cities lawyer with extensive business, transactional, and litigation experience. He graduated with honors from Boston College and the University of Minnesota Law School. When not researching and writing historical novels, he enjoys helping individuals and businesses solve complex problems while working at the wonderful Felhaber Larson firm. He is the author of the novel, Becoming George Washington and he is currently working on a new novel called, Becoming Benedict Arnold. 

Colin Mustful

Colin Mustful is the founder and editor of History Through Fiction, an independent press dedicated to publishing historical narratives rooted in factual events and compelling characters. A celebrated author and historian whose novel “Reclaiming Mni Sota” recently won the Midwest Book Award for Literary/Contemporary/Historical Fiction, Mustful has penned five historical novels that delve into the complex eras of settler-colonialism and Native American displacement. Combining his interests in history and writing, Mustful holds a Master of Arts in history and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. Residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he enjoys running, playing soccer, and believes deeply in the power of understanding history to shape a just and sustainable future.
